Here’s what UPES School of Modern Media students have to say about their choice of specialization and their learning at the university:
Vagisha Khandelwal, first-year student, BA Journalism and Mass Communication
I got to know about UPES Dehradun when I was searching for colleges and was enamoured by the cutting-edge specializations that the university offers. I decided to pursue Journalism and Mass Communication because of the exciting career opportunities that the field offers. Practical exposure along with in-depth lectures on theoretical aspects of journalism and mass communication opened up a whole new world for me.
Ansh Sharma, first-year student, BA Digital and Mass Media
The curriculum involves an in-depth study of as the basic mechanics of digital content creation, new distribution channels, and content strategies in digital media. The program opens doors for a wide range of job opportunities such as that of a broadcast journalist, social media manager, media researcher, etc. The professors help us develop life-long learning skills by giving us interesting assignments. They provide us opportunities to expand our knowledge in different domains.
Dipasha Gautam, first-year student, BA Journalism and Mass Communication
When I came to know about the unconventional specializations at UPES School of Modern Media, I decided to take up journalism. The first year was difficult due to the pandemic. But I gained immense knowledge through masterclasses, interactions with elite academicians, and industry experts. My course curriculum equips me with the relevant communication and technology skills needed to succeed in the media industry. In addition, I have refined my communication and soft skills too.
Tanish Saigal, first-year student, BBA Event Management, PR and Corporate Communication
I always had a keen interest in event management. Not many universities offer this program. In the last one year I have gained exposure about exhibitions, conferences and cultural meets. w The professors strive hard to ensure student success. I feel choosing UPES has been the best decision of my life to date.
Nancy Bora, first-year student, BA Journalism and Mass Communication
I was always passionate about Journalism but was unsure of whether I wanted to take up media studies or not. After visiting a couple of media colleges, I walked into UPES School of Modern Media and felt that it was the right place for me. Our curriculum is very different as compared to other colleges in India. We primarily focus on digital media platforms as opposed to traditional media like print. Industry-aligned curricula prepare us for the job market while enlightening us about the growing trend towards digitalization. We gain practical knowledge because our projects and assignments include video essays and research papers, reports, or news articles. This gives us a feeling that we are working in a media industry and this is what our future job will be. I recently did a project on media coverage of the Lok Sabha elections 2014.
The faculty at UPES is supportive and considerate. They cooperate with us and are sympathetic about our problems. Even with online classes, our lectures are full of interactive and participatory.
Ritika Srivastav, first-year student, BA Journalism and Mass Communication
A year has gone by and I feel UPES is much more than an institution of learning. The masterclasses and industry exposure ensure that students are ready to start a professional career after they graduate. The faculty is always eager to help, and they want every student to succeed. I have grown as a student, a person, and as a professional in the past year. The skills and knowledge I have gained go far beyond the classroom and I am glad that I chose UPES for my higher studies.
